  • Why you should value every drop of water!

No I’m not Houdini or any other magician for that matter, but it is possible to indeed ‘magic’ water out of apparent ‘thin air’. If we all rewind to high school science class, we should all remember being bored stiff while an ageing, crinkly old man go on about condensation…Condensation? Excuse me, what is that? I here you all ask out there.! Well, condensation is the process water vapour goes through to become liquid water. It is caused by reverse evaporation and usually occurs when water vapour (gas) comes into contact with a solid surface. This changes the molecule structure within the vapour, so it becomes even more compact and changes its matter structure so it becomes a liquid, and what we more commonly know as water.

Although this might not seem the most amazing thing in the world, to people who live in dry hot countries where water is a very precious and a rare resource, it is a very valuable way of obtaining water. Dehumidifiers are a very useful way to force water vapour to go through the condensation process and therefore seemingly produce water out of thin air…but not really, since we all know the science behind it now! Air purifiers are also used to exact water from the air as well.

Obtaining water through condensation is a vital resource for many people who live in developing countries, especially in the more rural parts of countries such as Africa and South America who experience massive droughts every year. Therefore these countries need an alternative reliable way to gather water to ensure their communities survival during the dry seasons.

At least us Brits will never have to worry about drought, as is evident from are patio heaters bills even during our ‘summers’!
